However, CaseyWegner disputes a lot of the claims that the article and the people quoted in it said, and he’s here to set things straight! (Full Disclosure: CaseyWegner is a member of SWM)
Casey claims that the “mods/admins” that ‘despite’ him is just one guy, not the entire Gamespot staff
CaseyWegner explains that there is no Gamespot staff conspiracy to get him out of the picture, claiming that it was all the action of a single individual who refused to even tell Synthia why he was suspended. He claimed she told him that herself.
According to Gamespot Ranger Super600, the removal of his mod powers could be traced back to Community Manager Dracula68:
Unless you have mod powers or are working with the mods(I’m not entirely sure they would want to work with you) you don’t know anything about what casey did while he was a mod except the way he acted. And thank mr dracula68 for getting casey’s powers removed.
Casey claims the timeline of events is broader than reflected in the user testimony and the article.
CaseyWegner explains that the quote from JodyR in the previous article was outdated and did no longer reflect the “reality of the situation”.
Casey’s election is not sanctioned by the SW Awards, therefore he is not a legitimate SW King
All SW Kings must be elected on the annual System Wars Awards. Although a majority of people voted to elect him on a thread and this magazine reported him as having won, this changes nothing, as the thread and poll was not part of the SW Awards (the 2011 SW Awards would not be for another two months).
CaseyWegner claims was not as active a moderator as commonly thought in the boards
CaseyWegner highly disagrees of the claims that he was modding on System Wars 24/7 hundreds of posts a day. In fact, from our research it seems CaseyWegner was actually a very inactive moderator. If you thought CaseyWegner did something against you, he probably didn’t.
JodyR attested to this in a message that was directed at Casey:
Most people believe [Casey is] the only person moderating them. They think ALL of their moderation history is CaseyWegner taking action and that [he has] something against them. Every single time I look at a user who complains about [Casey] it is always a variety of moderators taking action and maybe a couple of moderations are taken action [in place of him]. [CaseyWegner is] just popular.
Casey claims he still speaks with Gamespot staff.
CaseyWegner claims he has still maintained contact with the Gamespot staff, including having private phone conversations with Synthia.
He also claims that it’s not just Synthia, but most of the staff still likes to have him in discussions, including being invited to chat room discussions with the mods and rangers over what to do with the problems of the System Wars board.
CaseyWegner claims he does not ban-doge.
Posters claiming that Casey ban-dodges have not given any proof or pointed to an account that Casey would use to ban-dodge.
CaseyWegner claims he did not beg.
Casey has in the past sternly stated that he does no beg for anything.
CaseyWegner Strikes Back!
After collecting the above evidence, we approached CaseyWegner directly, and he will directly answer some of the ‘incorrect’ comments made by some users about him:
To address comments which I still can’t believe I’m seeing…
1. Made up rules – mods don’t make the rules. How many times does this need to be said? If I was making up rules, the higher ups or other mods would have said something a long time ago.
“Most people believe you are the only person moderating them. They think ALL of their moderation history is CaseyWegner taking action and that you have something against them. Every single time I look at a user who complains about you it is always a variety of moderators taking action and maybe a couple of moderations are taken action by you. You’re just popular.”
3. Still acting like I was a mod – When? It wasn’t until after I was no longer a mod that the mods decided that they would be making the rules for the metagame. Before that, it was the community who decided what the rules were. You think I acted like I owned the place? As for me saying things like “We’re working on it” in regards to fixing the problems that System Wars has, I was invited to a meeting to discuss them. I told people what I was allowed to tell them. I’ve flat out stated on multiple occasions before that I’m no longer a mod.
4. Reasons for my suspensions – I was never warned about anything that got me suspended. Nobody was harassed. It had nothing to do with my pushing for fixing the problems with the new rules. If it was, why would I have been invited to a meeting to discuss those problems?
Who to believe?
