ARTICLE: How to survive a Steam sale

It’s Steam Sale season, and things are going to get cheap. But you have to be careful, because you could end up spending more money on the wrong things at the wrong time!

Here are the basic rules for a Steam sale:

1. Don’t buy anything that isn’t a Daily Deal

If it’s not on the Daily Deal, it’s going to be cheaper once it’s on the Daily Deal. A game on sale for $30 will be $20 on a Daily Deal, for example.

2. If your game isn’t on a Daily Deal, wait until the last day of the sale

Sod’s Law states that if you buy a game, it’s going to be on the Daily Deal the next day.

3. It probably won’t ever get cheaper than 75% off

With a few supremely rare exceptions, 75% off is as low as it gets on Steam. Grab it at that price.

4. Limit your spending

It’s very easy to get carried away, keep your wallet healthy by limiting yourself to a set amount.

5. Play the ARG Games!

If there is one, try playing the Steam ARG games, where you can unlock free games and discounts. It surely works.

6. Buy with friends!

Get on the 4-pack action! Great multiplayer games (such as the excellent Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed) offer 4-packs, were 4 friends can buy a game together. This way ends up being cheaper than each one buying it individually, and everyone gets to enjoy the game at the same time!

Keep all of this in mind, and you will surely survive a Steam Summer Sale.
